Welcome to our What’s On Out There listings, news & links service. Thanks to local artists for their winter print and Christmas card illustrations this month - you can support their work via the links provided.
From now on, only full subscribers will have our full, rolling What’s On Out There posts. Everyone gets the current week of listings and the early month’s news and links, while full subscribers can access the full advance listings, and news and links updates.
All our posts are provided for all our readers by our full paying subscribers who cover the bills for this publication. All 250+ of you wonderful folk are a crucial part of our unique publishing social enterprise featuring the outdoors of Sheffield.
Read free to try us out for a few weeks. After that, we’ve currently set our pocket money full subscription rate at just £4 a month so it’s affordable for pretty much anyone with an interest in the subjects we cover.

Also Out There (News & Links)
Parkwood Springs parkrun - Changes in funding allocation from parkrun nationally means the new run will not now start until the new year, probably early spring. There will be a trial run (or runs) before then, probably in January. We’ll keep you posted.
Free Tram & Bus Rides for January - the BetterPoints programme celebrates its continuation into 2025 with a free Travelmaster public transport day ticket for your new year travels. The free NHS and council supported scheme rewards walking wheeling and public transport trips with points redeemable for free hot drinks, local discounts, and now a free day bus ticket too.
Hidden in Open Sight - new substack from Calvin Payne, of Drainspotting fame. Overlooked local historical sights, rivers, paths - and railway tunnels.
City Centre Cycle Hub - Now open! I’ll hopefully have an interview with local bike business boss Russell Cutts soon, who hopes this and the Meadowhall cycle hub are the first part of a network of many future proof parking hubs that’ll grow everyday cycling across the city (and South Yorks, and the UK). Sign up info here.
Path Idiocy at Wharncliffe - Ride Sheffield have reported another head injury (or worse) attempt by someone with an unfortunate viewpoint about off road cycling in Wharncliffe Woods. Be aware, and report to the police if you know or hear anything.
