If you find our What’s On Out There service useful (and thousands of you do) please join the readers (well over 200 so far) who’ve stuck their hands in their digital pockets to help cover the time and costs involved in putting it all together. It’s £4 a month, that’s all, or even less if you go annual. Thanks.
This post is updated every few days with out there events, news and links, so save the page or return as often as you like via the free Substack app, which updates all posts for you automatically. And please do share with all your mates:
Also Out There (News & Links)
Big River Watch - up to 12th Sept. See what’s happening on your local river as part of a national check up on river health.
Sheffield City Centre Cycle Hub - Word is the new hub will open in early October. Sign up form is here.
New Peak District Boundary Walk app - from CPREPDSY, a new guide to the local long distance footpath, 190 miles long.
Nature Recovery Strategy - The South Yorkshire consultation has finally launched. Make your feelings known to the politicians.
Land Grab Precedent? Campaigners against the transfer of council (and community) land to effectively extend a Greystones resident’s garden say this could spell danger for public land across the city, and endanger pedestrians on a busy school route, as we reported earlier this year. “Should we set a precedent for selling off public amenities to developers?” say the campaigners. See the petition here.
Castlegate Festival - Tours and markets and celebrations on Sept 14th / 15th
Megatron Tours - September tours of the underground River Sheaf now on sale - £25.
Sheffield Active Travel Investment Plan - Consultation now live for local investment in walking, wheeling and cycling.
COP16 - This October, in Colombia, the global biodiversity conference you’ve yet to hear about. It’s important. The World Wildlife Fund’s take is here.
Festival of The Mind - Early selection below - all manner of thoughtfulness.
Becoming a full paying subscriber costs £4 a month (or if you’re an event organiser, a fraction of your marketing budget, to reach thousands of readers). It’s even less if you go annual. There’s a list below of organisations whose members have already signed up. Is your organisation supporting the out there social enterprise for Sheffield yet?
Please send me a note at bbobillsmothers@gmail.com if you know of anything we should all know about (for events we need: Date / What It Is / Online Link), or if you’re a photographer, artist or illustrator who’d like to see your work on this page.
How To Use What’s On Out There -
Save the page address, or use the free Substack app to automatically refresh the post every time it’s updated (every few days, but online only) when something new comes in. There’ll also be a new email arriving every month if you’d rather keep track that way.
If you’ve been a trial visitor for a while, it’d be great if you could find the cost of a cheap pint a month for a paying subscription soon, to help pay the bills. Thanks!
