Welcome to the What’s On Out There guide to Sheffield and the northern Peak District.

Readers: WOOT comes in two formats. A brief roundup of news and links and the next week’s listings, emailed to our free subscribers once a month and updated regularly. So save the page or use the free Substack app to see the latest version, and feel free to share (below) with all your friends and colleagues.

Our full subscribers get the whole post: around two months of ever updating listings, with brief news and useful links as they come in. Reader subs are the only income for It’s Looking A Bit Black Over Bill’s Mother’s, not data scraping algorithms, dodgy advertising campaigns or vanity publishing empires, just the wonderful people (280+ so far) who like what we’re doing, and chip in a mere £4 a month to show it.

Promoters & Organisers: We can only publish your outdoor events if you tell us about them. Email us at bbobillsmothers@gmail.com as follows: Make your Subject line WOOT Event, with an email containing a 1 line event description, day & date, and an online link so readers can find out more details.

And taking out a full subscription or two (as over a dozen local organisations have, so far) would be a very helpful way to keep this service running.

Thanks. Start your free trial, or upgrade to paid below the preview. (And thanks to Colin Dixon, Roger Butterfield and Andy Deighton for extra photos in this edition).

Also Out There (News & Links)

Sheffield Environment Weeks - The city’s original listings and information service started 40 years ago to celebrate events for two weeks in summer by several city organisations. After sterling work to keep going, the site (with an unashamedly simple pre Web 2.0 feel) will be promoting 2025 events during Sheffield Environment Weeks (Saturday 26th April to Thursday 5th June) and beyond, and needs your support. Get in touch here.

New Hedges - South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership have 24,000 hedge trees for South Yorkshire landowners. Get in touch to get some or learn more.

Friends of Concord Park & Woolley Wood - need new volunteers urgently!

Looking Up Sheffield - Wonderful podcaster and writer Loz Harvey launches a Substack on his adopted city with an interview with fabulous folklorist David Clarke.
