Yes David, driving through rural Thailand last year in Phetchaburi (area south of Bangkok). I have photos... (can't attach here). They are specifically for swiftlets, the species that produce the transparent nest linings from their saliva and which is a delicacy in China, Thailand and other regions. Sometimes called swiftlet houses or condominiums, they are illegal, though they may be as big as a small block of flats and are common in this region. The swiftlets are a protected species in Thailand though there is discussion about sustainable methods of 'farming' them. So not a happy story, I'm afraid. :-(
Shades of Tony Hawkes book, Round Ireland with a fridge! Best of luck with the running.
Nice for wildlife get a look in on the home building front. Whilst they are at it, can they mandate solar panels and heat pumps on all new housing. Much cheaper and efficient than retrofitting and might save a few fields being covered in panels.
In Thailand, they build hotels for swifts...
Have you seen these David? Or have any readers from the Sheffield Swift Network heard about them, I wonder?

Yes, here's hoping these amendments are included - I'd say they fit the 'going for growth' headlines quite well.
