I hadn’t realised how unpleasant cherry laurels were! We removed one from the garden of the house we moved into four years ago, mainly because it was an ugly great brute blocking half the garden off. It was quite a task, as it had grown about 3-4 metres tall and had a trunk as thick as a tree’s. It still tries to send up a shoot now and then, but I think we’re on top of it now….
Another interesting and informative 'BM'. I found the pieces about unusual birds in the area, the progress being made on the Don and the perils presented by the Cherry Laurel very readable. The 'what's on' prompted me to return to an enjoyable Wardsend Cemetery Bird survey, to be rewarded with a passing Cormorant resting on a rock near the bridge. Muddy Mum, made this grandma laugh with identification. Thankyou!
I wonder also if he has heard of Robinia. I have seen it colonising woodlands edges in the Pyrenees, the Italian Maritime Alps and even the Camargue in recent years. It is spiney with prolific seeds. I am not looking forward to it coming to the UK.

Glad you enjoyed my little addition to this week’s Bill’s Mother’s, Liz! And the birds too 😊
I agree with Gerry Firkins view of cherry laurel.
