Round at Bill's Mother's - Late Jan 2024
The relaxed rolling news service for subscribers to Its Looking A Bit Black Over Bill's Mother's
27 Jan: news today that the biggest ever Sheffield parkrun has taken place this morning. 907 attended the run at Endcliffe Park, which turns out to be the 2nd highest ever attendance in Yorkshire (after 1008 on 1st Jan 2020 in Huddersfield, a pre-Covid outlier due to the scarcity of New Year’s Day runs, I suspect).
Organiser and general parkrun hero Louise Dale-Hughes was heard hollering that “five other Sheffield parkruns are available.” But by early summer, there’ll be six (seven if you count Rother Valley just yards across the border) when I hear the new Parkwood Springs parkrun will launch. A bit more on this below, with more to come this week, so do call back to this post later, subscribers.
Welcome to the late January email edition for full subscribers, including recent news from last week’s online only editions, and further news from this week.
20 Jan: Jennie Stevens finished the Winter Spine Race at 5:40 am. This was more than a day ahead of cut off, with an Edale to Kirk Yetholm time of 131 hours and 31 minutes. The post on her final push for all readers is here:

Brief News:
A 34 year old man has been jailed for stealing Peregrine Falcon eggs from a nest in Derbyshire. It’s believed the eggs stolen have now been incubated and sold on to the overseas falconry trade. The prosecution came as a result of surveillance by the RSPB charity’s Investigations Team and what seems to be a genuine drive to prevent persecution of birds of prey in the area. Derbyshire Police said: “We will go above and beyond to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”
The Campaign for the Protection of Rural England in the Peak District & South Yorkshire are celebrating their centenary this year, with a number of local events being planned so you can get involved - I hope to have more on this soon.
